How to create a tree for your enchanted forest

Materials you 'll need

Iron wire
paper tape
PVA/wood transparent glue
Acrylic paint (brown/white)
model bushes

If you want to create a forest scenery you will definitely need lots and lots of trees! Most likely you 'd prefer to keep it cheap by perhaps crafting them, since most good model trees to buy are quite pricey. This is a really easy and cheap craft.

Step 1
Handling the iron wire

You could get about 2,5-2.6 meters of iron wire and fold it every about 20cm.
Don't cut the edges yet, just twist them around (using a tool perhaps if iron is too difficult to bend).
Start working on the roots to make your tree standing and make sure you make it stable.
Since you are making a hunted tree or an enchanted tree your roots will be visible out of the ground and will give the effect that your tree is ready to walk!
Next are the branches. Just twist and turn till you have your desirable design. For better effect you can bend your trunk or make your make your branches look like reaching arms. Cut the edges on top if needed.

Step 2
Using the paper tape

Cover your model by wrapping it with paper tape. This way you are fast filling up the gaps from the wire. Cut small pieces of tape to create little details of your choice on the trunk like a hollow.

Step 3
Covering with glue & painting

The next step is gonna determine whether your tree will be glossy or matte so now it's the time to decide.Choose a darker shade of brown as your base.

  • If you want to have a glossy tree take pure wood/PVA transparent glue (don't mix with water) and mix it with a brown acrylic paint of your choice. Apply a thick layer of this mix on the paper tape of your tree such as you form some texture and let it dry.
  • If you prefer a matte tree then apply a thick layer of glue on the paper taped tree and let it dry well. When its done, it's time to paint it.

Step 4
Adding a layer

When your tree is dry you can add some details on it with a drybrush. Choose a lighter brown and paint some highlights around.

Step 5
Putting the greenery

If you want greenery on your tree cut some small pieces of model bushes and superglue them on the branches. Your tree is now ready.

How to make a scenery pond / lake

Materials that you 'll need:

Cardboard paper
acrylic paint (brown/yellow/blue/green/white/black)
liquid glass+catalyst
transparent PVA glue/wood glue
stones in several sizes
grass
modelist's bushes
sand

Step 1

Create the lake's shape and structure

Cut a piece of cardboard in your preferable size and shape. Cut one layer of the cardboard to create depth. Make sure u leave the edges to create shore (That surface is where your liquid glass will go later).
Apply a thick layer of PVA transparent glue on your shore (don't add any water in your glue). Make it as messy as possible such as you create texture, add little stones here and there and let it dry completely.

Step 2
Paint the shore and bottom of the lake

Paint your shore and stones with a brown colour of your choice and let it dry (I mix my own colours but if you are into citadel colours, I used a lighter version of "Dryad Bark").

Now get ready to paint the bottom of your pond/lake. Remember that in the middle water is deeper so it needs to be a darker colour (I used a brown colour there). Closer to the shore you can use a lighter blue-green colour. With your drybrush u can add some green colour just to give the illusion that there are plants under water. When you finish with the bottom of the lake you are ready to pour the liquid glass.

Step 3
Add the liquid glass

If you want to add any stones of plants inside your lake do it before you add the glass. Mix your glass with the catalyst following the bottle's directions. If you want you can colour it with any acrylic paint (i mixed blue & green and stirred it with a stick). If it makes bubbles, you can blow the mix a bit and they 'll go away.

You can now pour it in your lake and let it dry (depending on your product it might needs 1-2 days to dry out completely).

Step 4

Adding water effects and details on your shore

When the glass dries you can add water effects on it if you brush some PVA transparent glue on you water and let it dry out. Now its time to get back on your shore. You can drybrush your stones with grey colour and add some grey around your shore as well as a light brown colour.

Step 5

Adding sand & grass

Don't forget to cover the area around your cardboard with glue and paint it. Next get ready to put some sand on top for a more realistic effect. Your sand will probably too light colour so you might need to use coloured water (water with tiny bit of acrylic paint) or a citadel wash colour to make your sand a darker yellowish brown colour, but not too dark. You can also add some grass here and there. Your stones would look extra mossy with some grass on them.

Congratulations!!! You got yourself a lake/pond

When you add all the plants you want you are done! And here's your final product!
